We are pleased to announce the Ph.D. thesis award AUSE 2011/2012 .
The award is given to the PhD thesis that has shown exceptional contribution to a research project using synchrotron light in the period from 01/01/2011 to 31/12/2012.
The award consists of a monetary prize of 1000 € to support career development and will be presented at the 2013 AUSE Meeting (3-6 September Barcelona).
To be eligible for the award, you must:
- Thesis defended in a Spanish University in the period 2011-2012.
- Synchrotron radiation data should have made a major contribution to the thesis.
Only applications from the candidate will be accepted. Please forward the following material to email@example.com or Dr. María E. Dávila (see address below).
- A cover letter from the candidate (maximum 2 pages) providing an overview of the research undertaken during the PhD candidature of the applicant, their academic achievements and future plans for their research career.
- Three copies of the thesis, along with evidence of the thesis being passed. This could be an attachment to an email (usually in pdf format), or a mailed copy (on a disc, or in paper format). Electronic versions are preferred.
- A Letter of support from the candidate’s PhD supervisor or from the Head of Department or School describing the significance of the work and the contribution it has made to the relevant field (maximum 2 pages) commenting on the specific role the candidate played in the work, and the impact of the work.
- A copy of the candidate’s CV.
AUSE will retain one copy of the successful thesis. All other copies will be returned to the applicants at the end of the selection process.
The Awardee must be available to attend the AUSE Meeting (September 2013 in Barcelona) to receive their award and present their work in a plenary session.
Nominations are now OPEN and all material must be received by June 1, 2013.
All Ph. D. Theses will be evaluated by a Review Committee appointed by the Board of AUSE, using the following three criteria:
- The quality of the scientific research within the context of the field.
- The importance of synchrotron radiation for answering the scientific questions posed.
- The quality and capability of the candidate based on their CV and the letter of recommendation.
If the Award Review Committee is unable to identify a thesis of sufficient quality amongst the applications submitted, the award will not be offered.
If the Award Review Committee identifies a number of high quality applications in addition to the awardee, they may offer a “Highly Commended” certificate.
